Greenfield Hill Congregational Church members have launched a summer long campaign to raise one million pennies to support FOCI projects that help the poorest children in all our mission work. We call the campaign "Children: Lost and Found".
Our first goal was to raise 100,000 pennies, but everyone was so excited and it took off so fast that we are now targeting one million!!People are finding coins on the sidewalk, under couch cushions, at the bottom of purses and under the car seats and bringing them to the church each week. For 100,000 pennies we can run our CLAP school for kids who live on the sidewalk for one year. But as we head toward one million pennies we can underwrite our schooling for the most needy children in our other school (Astrid Rowe Memorial High School) where we have 1100 students including 35 who live full time under our care. Austin McCullough, a high school junior from our church went to India with our mission group in January 2006 and loved it so much that he returned this summer to live at our school. There he is giving special attention to the kids helped by our pennies campaign.
